JUNIOR ACADEMY U6, U7 & U8
Junior Academy (U6–U7) & (U8)
4v4 & 5v5 Development Program
The Junior Academy represents the second phase of player development at Omaha United Soccer Club. Designed for U6 and U7 players, this program uses 4v4 and 5v5 small-sided games to create a fun, positive, and challenging environment where young players develop a love for the game while learning the fundamental skills of soccer.
Small-sided games maximize touches on the ball, decision-making opportunities, and active involvement—ensuring every player is constantly engaged, learning, and enjoying the game
Program Objective
The primary goal of our Junior Academy is to:
- Create a fun and supportive learning environment
- Build confidence with the ball
- Teach the foundational principles of soccer
- Encourage creativity, effort, and teamwork
Players are guided to learn through play, repetition, and game-based activities that are age-appropriate and development-focused.
4v4 & 5v5 Developmental Format (Ages 6–8)
Our 4v4 and 5v5 structure allows players to:
- Get more touches on the ball
- Make frequent decisions in game-like situations
- Learn attacking and defending concepts naturally
- Develop confidence without pressure
This format accelerates learning while keeping sessions fun and engaging.
Our Coaches
Our coaches have a true passion for the world’s most popular game and extensive experience working with players in these age groups. They hold accredited coaching certifications, and nearly all of our head coaches on both the boys’ and girls’ sides have played at the collegiate or professional level.
Most importantly, our coaches understand how young players learn and are committed to creating a positive, encouraging environment.
Our Teaching Philosophy: Player Development First
1. Technical Development
Technical development is the foundation of our program. Players learn how to:
- Dribble
- Pass
- Shoot
- Receive the ball with confidence
We emphasize quality over quantity—focused, purposeful repetition in game-like situations rather than isolated drills.
2. Psychological Development
We help players:
- Learn how to compete in a healthy way
- Build confidence on and off the ball
- Work together as teammates
- Develop resilience and a positive mindset
Players are encouraged to challenge themselves, express creativity, and enjoy competing in a supportive environment.
3. Tactical Awareness (Age-Appropriate)
At the U6–U7 level, tactical learning is introduced naturally through play. Players begin to understand
- Basic spacing
- When to attack and defend
- Movement with and without the ball
- Simple team concepts within our club playing style
4. Physical Development
- Our training helps players improve
- Coordination
- Balance
- Speed
- Agility
- Overall athletic movement
All physical development is integrated through fun, soccer-based activities suitable for young players.
